Jerez de la Frontera, an important city in the province of Cadiz.

Cadiz, as you already know is a big province full of beautiful and interesting places, villages and cities to visit and to get to know. Here you can find wild and idyllic beaches such as ‘El Palmar’ in Caños de Meca,  Bolonia, or Tarifa, a little village which is famous all over the world because of kitesurfing.

You can also visit ‘Los pueblos blancos de la sierra’, little white villages which are in the mountains, like Vejer de la Frontera, named as the second most beautiful village in Spain, or Arcos de la Frontera, Grazalema, etc.

But I would like to focus on the fact that Cadiz province has also big cities which are even bigger than the capital and which fame and importance is well known all over the world, like Jerez de la Frontera.
Jerez, is famous because of the sherry wine which is cultivated in the prestigious wineries such as Gonzalez Byass ‘Tio Pepe’, Domecq, Sandeman, etc. It is also famous because of the horses. In Jerez there is a special breed of horses which are stronger than others and they have special characteristics since they can even dance¡
But the original thing which makes a name for Jerez is the Flamenco art, which was born in this beautiful city and is becoming popular in every single country. Flamenco, is a form of Spanish folk music and dance from the region of Andalusia in southern Spain. It includes cante (singing), toque (guitar playing), baile (dance) and palmas (handclaps).
So if you really want to learn about this ancient art just come to Jerez and visit the numerous ‘peñas’, places where you can see flamenco for free. There are also a flamenco festivals which take part every single year, such as ‘El festival de Jerez’ where some of the best flamenco singers, dancers, etc come to Jerez to performance and to teach their own art.

Jerez fair, celebrates in May is another event which you cannot miss. Women wear typical dresses, horses walk around the fair during the morning, people sing and dance typical songs and drink sherry wine until 6 in the morning¡

What are you waiting for?

Come and visit our beautiful corner ;)
